C-isms

Mom (in the AM, before breakfast): "Sweater? It is cold?" C: "No. I want a blanket." C wraps around herself, shuffles around and says: "You have done well young Padawan, you have done well." 9/8/12
C: "A great teacher would remove the word 'impossible' from the classroom dictionaries." [Why?] "Because nothing is impossible if you set your mind to it."
Mom, lost in a park near their house, "I can't find a trail." C: "Lets blaze one!"
C: "Steph-anne Hawkins is not as smart as Einstein because Albert Einstein could do quantum physics and quantum mechanics in his head, while Steph-anne Hawkins, with all due respect, can only do physics. No offense to Steph-anne Hawkins, partially because he is the smartest man alive." Mom (in all seriousness, and remember that she is a regular reader of Scientific American): "What is quantum mechanics?" C: "It is how particles move." 9/26/11

Mojito Friday

We normally have Martini Fridays here at the Taj Gilbert. However, recent problems with the house supply of vermouth (invaded by fruit flies -- gack) have forced us to venture out to new cocktails. It is nice monsoon weather so a good time as any to try mojitos. Here is the recipe for the Maharajito:

2 tsp powedered sugar
3 oz white Bacardi rum (available, oddly enough, in Bangalore. That is it for good rum in India, unless you care for "Old Monk".)
1 small fistful of pudina (Hindi for spearmint)
Soda water
Half of a lime
.5 oz Rose's Key West lime juice
Crushed ice

1. Muddle the carefully washed mint with powdered sugar and a little bit of soda water in the bottom of a Collins glass with a fork.
2. Add the rum and lime juice. Sqeeze in the lime, cut out the pulp, and drop in the clean shell. Limes in India are really small so you won't get much juice, hence the Rose's.
3. Stir stir stir.
4. Add crushed ice to the top and the soda water. Stir lightly to blend.
5. One dash of rum on the top to remind folks that this is, indeed, Friday.

Serve, enjoy, think of Miami.
